Children at The Priory are able to participate in a wide range of sporting activities including football, tennis, tag rugby, cricket, rounders, netball, athletics and gymnastics. In 2008, the school was awarded an Activemark for its provision of physical activity. The school, despite its size, is able to form teams for inter schools sporting tournaments. We are very proud of our achievements in these tournaments, many of which we have been fortunate to win. Sport is coached by members of staff, volunteers and external providers.

Children at The Priory are very active. All enjoy a minimum of two hours quality PE each week which may include team games, dance, gymnastics, use of the large and small apparatus and the outdoor adventure trail and tyre park.  Children are also encouraged to use physical activities within class to keep their brains alert and they participate in "Activat8" sessions between periods of more sedentary work.

Many children participate in extra-curricular sporting activities. These include tennis, judo, Zumba and ballroom dancing as well as the more traditional ball skills clubs. A very popular activity that further enriches our curriculum provision is the circus skills workshop. This is provided on an annual basis and helps the children to develop balance and coordination through juggling, walking a low tightrope, walking on stilts, pedaling a unicycle and throwing a diabolo.

Recently, the school opened its doors on an in-service teacher training day for a multi-skills sports club. This provided a child care facility for working parents but also allowed the children to have an enjoyable day trying their hands at various sporting challenges.

The school has an annual sports day in the Summer Term. This is always well attended by family and friends. The children take part in a variety of competitive track events and there is always a great deal of support from the sidelines. Afterwards, families gather for a picnic an occasionally we have lovely surprises such as a fly past by the Red Arrows!

Children’s achievements in sport are recognised throughout the year and at our annual awards ceremony one child from Reception to Year 5 is recognised for their outstanding achievement in this area. A strong sporting programme not only helps to make our children fit and and healthy but it also enables them to develop skills of teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.
